Please help us welcome our new Community Forestry Coordinator Jesus Valenzuela! 📣
Jesus is a big fan of nature and the outdoors. He enjoys playing soccer and going out on hikes and camping trips. Born and raised in KC, Sundays are reserved for the Chiefs. Jesus has a huge love for the city and is always looking for ways to give back to it. He’s excited to join the BTG team because of the opportunity to continue giving back to the community in new ways and help in an industry that can play a huge role as Kansas City continues to grow and expand. Jesus’s favorite tree would have to be the Redbud because of the different colors and that it can add character to whatever area it is planted in.

Join Heartland Tree Alliance to plant trees throughout Kansas City! Trees slow traffic speeds, filter air and water pollutants, and provide shade to cool the rising temperatures in summer. Over time, trees help slow climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air, storing carbon in the trees and soil, and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere.

🌳 Free trees for Grandview residents through the Energy-Saving Trees program! This fall Evergy in partnership with Bridging The Gap and the @ArborDayFoundation will be giving away up to two free trees per address. Home drop off and pick up options available later this month.

The highlight of the Natural Areas Conference last

The highlight of the Natural Areas Conference last week was watching our first Kansas City WildLands program manager Linda Lehrbaum receive the Carl N. Becker Stewardship Award. This award recognizes individuals across the country who have made a significant contribution to the management of ecosystems and natural areas.

“NAA is thrilled to recognize Linda for her exceptional contributions to the natural areas profession,” said NAA executive director Lisa Smith. “Her leadership, dedication, and commitment to the protection and stewardship of natural areas are truly inspiring, and we are honored to celebrate her achievements.” Congratulations, Linda!

Our Kansas City WildLands team attended that national Natural Areas Conference last week in Manhattan, KS. They spent time learning at field workshops at Konza Biological Research Station and presenting to a wide audience about the value of small natural areas and how our seed program is growing to meet demand. Bonus: northern lights! A huge thank you to @moconservation for making this possible.
