TREE PLANTING & CARE
Grow our urban tree canopy by planting, mulching, and pruning young street trees in neighborhoods and parks with our Heartland Tree Alliance program. All supplies and training provided. Workdays take place primarily in spring and fall.
PRAIRIE & FOREST RESTORATION
Conserve, protect, and restore our region’s valuable wild lands with our Kansas City WildLands program. Volunteers remove invasive plant species such as bush honeysuckle and garlic mustard from public lands. All supplies and training provided. Workdays take place primarily in spring and fall.

VOLUNTEER FAQs
What are the requirements to volunteer?
All volunteers are required to sign up in advance and agree to our waiver. The minimum age to volunteer varies, depending on the volunteer opportunity, and will be indicated on the signup form.
We understand the value of engaging volunteers with a diversity of experiences and perspectives to optimize our potential for compassion, collaboration, creativity, and excellence in service. BTG encourages minorities, women, veterans, and individuals from under-represented groups to volunteer.
What do I need to wear or bring with me to volunteer?
All supplies and training are provided. Outdoor volunteer opportunities require closed-toe shoes and comfortable clothing is recommended. Any other clothing recommendations specific to the volunteer opportunity (long pants, etc.) will be provided upon signup. We recommend bringing a reusable water bottle.
What if I need to cancel my volunteer shift?
We understand that conflicts sometime arise. Email or call the contact person listed in your confirmation email.
Can I schedule a private volunteer event for my group?
To inquire about options for a private volunteer workday for your company, community group, or school, call 816-944-2378 or email volunteer@bridgingthegap.org. We typically ask for a financial donation to help fund the private workday, or your group is welcome to sign up and participate in a public workday.
Do you accept court-ordered community service volunteers?
Yes! We partner with the Metropolitan Community Service Program (MCSP). Email volunteer@bridgingthegap.org for more information.
