Since 2020, BTG’s Energy & Water Savers program

Since 2020, BTG’s Energy & Water Savers program has assisted KCMO residents with
efficiency improvements within their home, helping to lower utility bills and increase comfort:
✅ 511 homes received free water- and energy-saving devices
✅ 4,203 LED light bulbs installed in homes
✅ 25 toilets replaced
✅ 32 larger plumbing leaks repaired

Bridging The Gap is seeking a full-time Executive Director to lead one of the most dynamic environmental organizations in the Midwest. This role offers the chance to lead a well-established, respected, and broad-reaching organization in fostering an equitable, sustainable future for all in Kansas City. Alongside staff, the Executive Director will serve as a champion for communities experiencing environmental injustice, raising awareness in city, state and federal governments about climate change, unjust energy bill burdens, declining natural systems and lack of access to nature, and the real-world solutions to these problems.

“A million and three!” That’s how many cardboard boxes longtime volunteer Jim McGraw jokingly guesses that he’s broken down during his 29 years volunteering at the KCMO Recycling Drop-off Centers, managed by Bridging The Gap. Jim has volunteered more than 800 hours since 2012!

Recently the HTA leadership team attended the Partners in Community Forestry Conference in Chicago. While there they got to visit Ping Tom Park in Chinatown, a thriving community garden built on a brownfield in the "Little Village" neighborhood and finally a sustainable built parks headquarters and community fieldhouse in Brighton Park.

Our Kansas City WildLands team has wrapped up thei

Our Kansas City WildLands team has wrapped up their seed collecting and processing for the season! 🌱🌸

220 native, local ecotype species were collected in 2024 — these seeds were hand-collected by volunteers and staff between January and December, reflecting the wide biodiversity that exists across our natural areas right here in Kansas City. These seeds come from public land and all go back to public land, increasing the resilience and ecosystem services these natural areas provide our communities.

🧡Golden feather grass (Sorghastrum nutans)
💛Compass plant (Silphium laciniatum)
💚Round-headed bush clover (Lespedeza capitata)

Thousands of residents utilize the environmental services BTG offers each year! In our most
recently completed fiscal year:
✅ 74,062 cars visited the 3 KCMO Community Recycling Centers, managed by BTG
✅ 38,000+ people received access to recycling at community events through our green events program
✅ 21 community groups borrowed free litter cleanup supplies from our Tool Lending Shed
✅ Our green stewards maintained 239 storm water gardens throughout KCMO neighborhoods
