“Pruning for Beginners” Workshops Offered

Want to know the “right” way to prune those small trees around your home? Looking for a new way to give back to the community and like pruning trees? Our new “Pruning for Beginners” course might be just for you.

Heartland Tree Alliance (HTA) is offering a new 2-hour course on basic tree pruning skills for shade and ornamental trees. Fruit trees will NOT be discussed. Participants will learn through hands-on training and instruction about proper pruning tools, basic tree biology, types of pruning cuts, and how to make a proper cut. All participants will receive a “How to Prune Trees” booklet from the US Forest Service to take home.

This course is a prerequisite for volunteers who would like to participate in HTA pruning workdays throughout the metro as well as for anyone interested in learning more about basic pruning techniques.

All tools will be provided by HTA but participants are asked to bring safety/sun glasses, gloves and a refillable water bottle.
