GOKC
KCMO Tree Replacement Program
Did you receive a door hanger, as shown on the left? If so, you have been selected to receive a FREE TREE by Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department.
As part of the City’s Tree Replacement Program, Bridging The Gap’s Heartland Tree Alliance program is planting trees where a tree was removed and/or where there is sufficient space for a tree to grow. Our goal is to plant two trees for every one tree removed during the city-wide sidewalk improvement projects.
Trees will be chosen from the City’s Recommended Tree Species list and will NOT include sweet gum, bradford pear or any other nuisance tree. The tree(s) will be appropriately sized for the space and may add value to your property over time (research shows mature trees can add up to 10% value to homes at the time of resale).
If you DO NOT want a tree planted in your right-of-way greenspace, which is the area between the curb and sidewalk, you must call 816-612-8784 or email Heartland Tree Alliance within 14 days of receiving this notice. Once the 14 day time period has passed and a tree has been planted, we can no longer honor your request.
If you ACCEPT a tree, there is no action needed at this time: Heartland Tree Alliance will plant your tree in 2-4 weeks. After the 14 day time period white flags and paint will indicate the proposed planting location and soon thereafter we will plant and mulch the tree(s).
