Volunteer: Tree Giveaway Event Support

Energy Saving Trees Program

Saturday, May 4, 8:15 AM – Noon

KCPL Connect, 1710 Paseo, Kansas City, MO 64108

KCP&L and Bridging The Gap, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation’s Energy-Saving Trees program, are offering a limited number of free trees to customers in zip codes 64110, 64109, 64127, 64128, and 64130.

These trees will reduce energy consumption by up to 20% each year, in addition to providing benefits such as improved air and water quality, stress relief, and beautification. Click here to read more about the program.

Volunteers are needed in a variety of roles to help make this tree giveaway event successful. This is a terrific opportunity to connect with the community and help to create a healthier environment! No experience needed; we’ll train you the day of the event. See below for roles and job descriptions.

Location: KCPL Connect, 1710 Paseo, Kansas City, MO 64108

Min age: 16. We’ll provide workgloves and safety vests. Please wear clothing you don’t mind getting dirty.

We will provide training at 8:15 AM on-site for all volunteer roles. The event opens to the public at 9:00 AM.

Choose from the following volunteer roles:

  • Registration Table (2 volunteers):
Ensure all community members receiving free trees have registered. The volunteer role will be to check pre-registered recipients off the list and direct them to the pick-up area.
  • Traffic Control (1 volunteer):
Direct traffic from street into parking lot and manage parking lot traffic in a safe manner.
  • Community Engagement / Tree Loading Team (10 volunteers):
The community engagement and tree loading volunteers will work in teams of 2. One volunteer will engage with the resident to determine the type of tree that was ordered, and their teammate will load the tree into the car. Tree loading volunteers must be able to safely lift, move, and place 5 to 7 pound trees into cars throughout a 3-hour shift.
